The Institut français supports encounters between French culture and foreign cultures.
The Institut français puts on large-scale events to promote French culture abroad and foreign cultures in France.
Since 1985, its Saisons et années croisées (Seasons and Cross-years) have brought France into dialogue with more than 60 countries. Decided at the highest State level, they reflect the strategic orientations of France’s policies of international influence. They are aimed at building lasting connections, encouraging artistic co-production, developing cultural, economic and academic exchanges, and strengthening cooperation at both the national and local levels. Initially centred exclusively on arts and culture, they now also include education, higher education, research, sports, the economy, tourism and gastronomy.
