The Institut français, a dynamic cultural player on the European stage, emphasises the European dimension of France’s cultural action abroad.
The Institut français displays its European, multidisciplinary attitude through projects, of which it is a leader or a partner, supported by the European Union, and the coordination of regional projects in Europe.
The Institut français’ European cooperation is reflected in particular through its commitment to “More Europe”, a civic initiative that advocates for the strengthening of the role of culture in the European Union's international relations.
The Institut français is also a member of the EUNIC (European Union National Institutes for Culture) network, and cooperates closely with its European counterparts.
It is also characterised by a special bilateral relationship with Germany, notably via the Fonds culturel franco-allemand (Franco-German Cultural Fund).
