Francomics, French-language comic competition in German schools
Updated on 14/10/2019
A project created by the Franco-German Institute in Erlangen, the French Embassy in Berlin and Cornelsen Editions and supported by the Institut français, the Francomics competition allows students from German secondary schools learn about the world of French-language comics.
Through March 2020, three French-language comics will be made available to students on the digital platform Culturethèque so that they can read them and select their favourite as a group. Each group of students then makes a short video in French: the more creative the better! For this edition, the students will work on L’écorce des choses (“The Rind of Things”) by Cécile Bidault (Warum Editions), The End by Zep (Rue de Sèvres Editions) and Jamais (“Never) by Bruno Duhamel (Bamboo Editions).
Each video submitted will count as a vote for the featured comic. The one with the most votes will be the winner of the Francomics competition.
The winning comic is translated by a German publishing house and presented at the Comic-Salon (international comic festival) in Erlangen in June 2020.
The author won't be the only winner! A jury will also select the most creative video vote for each comic strip. The three finalist groups will have the chance to attend the Comic-Salon in Erlangen, meet the winning comic book author and present him or her with the Francomics Prize.
