Tunis

The General Assembly on French-language Books Around the World is being held in Tunis in the autumn of 2020, in connection with the Francophone Heads of State Summit.

The event aims to stimulate, integrate and develop the French-language editorial market, notably enabling greater circulation of French-language works and authors among all French-speaking audiences. It will be the culmination of a broad consultation process with French-language book professionals around the world, at workshops and on the website www.lelivreenlanguefrancaise.com.

The General Assembly on French-language Books is part of various actions which fall under the umbrella of the presidential plan for the French language and multilingualism unveiled in March 2018, which are taking place around the world to encourage renewed linguistic cooperation and actively promote the vitality of the Francophone world.

The final of a huge public speaking contest brings together 20 French-speaking candidates selected from 12 countries – from Japan to Spain, Mauritania, Argentina, and others, – following training provided specifically around the challenges of argumentation and public speaking in French.

Finally, together with the French Ministry of Culture the Institut français is presenting the 2nd edition of the "Des Mots à la Scène" fund, which is intended to showcase playwrights from the Global South who are little known or rarely performed by supporting the production of their scripts and promoting new avenues for distribution and networking. In 2019, 9 projects in 8 countries received support.
