Initially planned for 2020, the General Assembly on French-Language Books Around the World will take place this year in Tunis. This initiative, which falls under the umbrella of the presidential plan for the French language and multilingualism, aims to bring together a wide variety of stakeholders from the international world of books to promote access to books and reading for all French speakers and to develop a French-language publishing sector that is dynamic, balanced and fosters the creation, dissemination and circulation of books, publications and authors.

Attesting to the challenges of a multi-centred French-speaking world, the General Assembly on French-Language Books Around the World, initiated by France and run by the Institut français, will be co-organised by six countries – Ivory Coast, Guinea, Quebec, Switzerland, Tunisia and Wallonia-Brussels – and the International Organization of La Francophonie (OIF).
