The 6th edition of the Night of Ideas: 24 hours live to feel "close(r)"

The 6th edition of the Night of Ideas, annual event dedicated to the free circulation of ideas and knowledge, and coordinated by the Institut français will be held on Thursday 28 January 2021 on the theme « Close(r) ». The event will be reinforced in its digital dimension through the creation of 24 hours of Night and Ideas.

Manon Garcia

Publication of a previously unseen novel (Les Inséparables, L'Herne), translation of a biographical burden (Becoming Beauvoir, by Kate Kirkpatrick): a wealth of editorial current topics surrounds Simone de Beauvoir. An interest that comes as much from the figure of the author – often misunderstood – as its founding notion on the questions of genre and feminism. The philosopher Manon Garcia, who looked to her work for her essay On ne naît pas soumise, on le devient (2018) (You are not born submissive, you become it), throws light on the work of the author of Second Sex and her influence on contemporary movements.

Culottées, by Pénélope Bagieu

With Culottées (Brazen), Pénélope Bagieu pays tribute to the women overlooked and forgotten by history. Like a kind of feminist directory, this animated series paints a portrait of thirty heroines left in the shadows.

On the occasion of International Women's Day on March 8 2021, 5 episodes of the Culottées series are available for 24 hours.

Cité internationale des arts : 24 new recipients

Selected within the framework of the call for applications launched last autumn 2020, 24 new artists from around the world will be hosted in residence between April 2021 and April 2022 through the program of the Institut français at the Cité internationale des arts, in Paris.

Cinema

CinEd : a lookback at 5 years of film education under the coordination of the Institut français

In 2015, with CinEd, the European Commission gave its direct support for the first time to a film education project in the framework of the Creative Europe – MEDIA programme. The Institut français initiated and manages CinEd, which brings together 10 cooperation partners in 9 countries: Bulgaria, Italy, France, Spain, Lithuania, Romania, Portugal, Finland and the Czech Republic. These partnerships work to implement film education actions for young Europeans, thanks to a multilingual digital platform enabling easy and free organisation of public film showings.

In 2021, the Institut français is handing over the heritage of five years’ coordination to the Cinemateca Portuguesa, now leader of a new phase in the project entitled “CinEd 2.0”.
